- Next-gen Honda HR-V will be revealed in May 2021
- New model will be larger, with a length of around 4.4m
- HR-V will continue to sit below the CR-V in Honda's global line-up
While the Indian market is set to receive the new Honda City, the company has delayed the market introductions of a few models abroad, including the next-gen HR-V, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As reported by us earlier, the all-new HR-V which was slated to be unveiled early next year, will now only be introduced in May 2021. This new model is crucial for Honda globally, as it will be the brand's contender in the competitive midsize SUV segment.
What else is known about the next-gen Honda HR-V?
While not much is known about new HR-V, we can confirm the midsize SUV will share its underpinnings with the latest-gen Jazz, and it will also get multiple engine options including a 1.0-litre turbo petrol as well as an option with mild-hybrid tech. As before, the HR-V will sit below the CR-V in Honda's global line-up, but it will see an increase in size, measuring close to 4.4m in length. This will allow Honda to introduce a smaller SUV lower down the range. This new SUV was expected to be unveiled later this year, according to this website, but given the current scenario, there could be a delay.
What will the next-gen HR-V rival globally?
A number of midsize SUVs will be rivals to the new Honda HR-V, depending on the market, and these include the Jeep Renegade, the updated Nissan Kicks, and the upcoming Toyota Corolla Cross.
Will the new HR-V come to India?
The outgoing Honda HR-V was slated to come to our shores but the plan was cancelled. The model had a high level of import content which meant Honda India would have found itself in a disadvantageous position when it came to pricing amid the aggressively positioned, new competition from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
What does Honda's India line-up for 2020 look like?
The new City, Honda's biggest launch for 2020, will see a price announcement in the coming weeks. Honda is also expected to introduce the BS6-compliant, mildly updated versions of the Jazz and WR-V soon.
