Ather aims to open assembly plants in international markets
Ather Energy is planning to enter two international markets by March 2021. The Bengaluru-based electric scooter manufacturer says that it was already in talks with representatives of a few South East Asian countries, but their plans were put on the backburner, following the COVID-19 crisis. Now, with the world slowly easing back to some form of normalcy, Ather has resumed working on its international expansion plans.
The company adds that the decision to choose South East Asia was taken as there is a good demand for electric vehicles in the region. These countries also have a wide electric vehicle charging infrastructure, making it easier for the local population to adopt EVs.
Besides South East Asia, Ather is also looking to enter markets in Europe and Latin America, where it is witnessing a growing need for electric two-wheelers. It also aims to setup local assembly plants in international markets to cater to demand.
Back home in India, Ather is focusing on the sales of the new Ather 450X that was launched in January 2020. At present, the scooter is sold in Bengaluru and the company plans to expand its presence across India over the coming months. The list of cities includes Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.
