KTM 250 Adventure spied in near-production form

Back in August 2019, we broke the news that KTM was working on the 250 Adventure. Shortly after, its larger-displacement sibling, the 390 Adventure, had its grand unveiling at EICMA 2019, while the 250 Adventure was silently, briefly added to the KTM Indonesia website. Since then there has been no official update on the 250 Adventure, but the latest spy shots show an undisguised bike, indicating that a launch is imminent.

  • KTM 250 Adventure spied in near-production state.

  • Launch expected in late October.

  • Unlike the 250 Duke, it features the TFT display from the 390 models.

Late last year, we received information that the 250 Adventure was scheduled for launch in mid-2020, but the pandemic has delayed those plans. We now have information that the quarter-litre ADV will be available in our market in time for the festive season, towards the end of October.

When the 250 Adventure does launch, it will act as the new entry point for the manufacturer’s adventure bike line-up. It looks identical to the 390 Adventure, with the same fuel tank, extensions, radiator shroud, belly pan and tail-section. This set of spy images does not show the front end of the 250 Adventure, but older ones had revealed that the bike uses a halogen headlamp instead of the full-LED setup on the 390. However, the 250 Duke was recently updated with the LED headlight from the 390 models, and it remains to be seen if KTM brings that update to the 250 Adventure as well.

From the looks of it, the 250 Adventure’s alloy wheels are the same as the 390 Adventure’s. The specs on the Indonesia site also reveal that KTM has gone with an identical 100/90-19 front and 130/80-17 rear tyre size. The website also revealed that, just like the India-spec KTM 390 Adventure, the 250 Adventure, too, uses a non-adjustable 43mm USD fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock.

In terms of electronics, the 250 Adventure gets off-road ABS and unlike the 250 Duke, features the same TFT display from the 390 Duke and 390 Adventure. Powering the bike is the same engine from its street-naked sibling – a 248.8cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine making 30hp and 24Nm of torque. We expect the bike's gearing to be similar as well.

The 250 Duke’s most recent update took its price up to Rs 2.09 lakh. Considering the additional hardware and TFT screen on the 250 Adventure, we expect it to cost a fair bit more, between Rs 2.3-2.4 lakh.

All prices, ex-showroom, Delhi
