Kia Sonet: variants explained

The Kia Sonet has been a highly anticipated launch, ever since its debut in concept form at the 2020 Auto Expo. More recently, the production-spec Sonet was unveiled, which gave us a good look at the interior and exterior. Kia has officially begun accepting bookings for the Sonet and has already gathered more than 6,500 bookings via its web and at its dealerships across the country, with the booking amount set at Rs 25,000.

We now also have information on the many trim levels it will be available and the features each one will come with, and we’ve broken down all the information about the Kia Sonet and its variants below.

  • Sonet to come with three engine and five gearbox options
  • Tech Line trims to include HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX and HTX+
  • GT Line will solely be offered in fully-loaded GTX+ guise

What engines will be offered with the Kia Sonet?

Under the hood, the Kia Sonet will come with the option of both petrol and diesel powertrains. These will include an 83hp, 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 120hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol available with either a 6-speed iMT (clutch-less manual) or 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.

There will also be a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel that produces 100hp when paired to the 6-speed manual gearbox and 115hp when paired to the 6-speed torque-converter automatic.
