Hyundai Motor India (HMI) today announced overall sales of 21,320 units in June 2020 across India. The figure marks a 50 percent drop in sales vis-à-vis June 2019 sales. However, at a time when sales are subdued industry-wide owing to the coronavirus pandemic, a comparison with last month’s sales reveals a rosier picture. Hyundai’s sales in June 2020 mark a 209 percent jump over the 6,883 units the Korean carmaker despatched in May 2020.
The new second-gen Creta, launched just days before the nationwide lockdown in March, is driving demand for Hyundai. The Creta’s booking count crossed the 30,000 unit mark last month. Incidentally, the Hyundai Creta was also the best-selling car in a slow May 2020.
Over June 2020, Hyundai also exported 5,500 units from India to markets in the Middle East, South Africa and Latin America.
According to Tarun Garg, director, Sales, Marketing and Service, HMI, “As a responsible and caring brand, Hyundai Motor India is committed to support the country’s objective of reviving the economy at the earliest. Our newly launched products like the all-new Creta, new Verna and the new Aura, as well as traditionally strong brands such as the Elite i20, Venue, Santro and Grand i10 Nios, have been receiving encouraging customer response.”
