BS6 Maruti Suzuki Celerio S-CNG launched from Rs 5.61 lakh

  • Celerio CNG available in mid-spec VXi and VXi(O) trims
  • BS6 upgrade sees mileage drop to 30.47km/kg
  • Prices hiked by about Rs 30,000 over BS4 model

Maruti Suzuki has launched the BS6-compliant CNG variant of the Celerio hatchback, with prices starting from Rs 5.61 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). As before, the upgraded BS6 Celerio CNG is available in two trim levels – VXi and VXi(O) – targeted at private individuals, with fleet operators being offered a dedicated model badged as the Tour H2. The VXi(O) is priced at Rs 5.68 lakh while the Tour H2 is priced at Rs 5.37 lakh.

Is there any difference in performance?

While Maruti has not revealed any output figures for the BS6 Celerio CNG, it has revealed the official mileage figure of 30.47km/kg. Compared to the BS4 car, the figure is down 1.29km/kg. In terms of power output, expect it to remain more or less unchanged from that of the BS4 model. In BS4-spec, the Celerio’s  1.0-litre K10 unit was good for 68hp and 90Nm of torque when burning petrol, and 59hp and 78Nm of torque when running on CNG. As before, the CNG models are only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

What’s the price difference?

Compared to the BS4 model, prices have been hiked by around Rs 30,000 for the VXi and VXi(O) CNG models.

What are its rivals?

The BS6 Celerio CNG is rivalled by the Hyundai Santro, which too is available with a factory fitted CNG kit. As with the Celerio, the Santro too gets the option for a CNG kit on its mid variants – Magna and Sportz – but is priced at a more premium Rs 5.85 lakh and Rs 6.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Celerio CNG is Maruti’s fifth BS6-compliant CNG model, following the Alto, Ertiga, Wagon R and Eeco. The carmaker had also showcased a BS6-compliant CNG version of the S-presso at the Auto Expo earlier this year, though it is yet to be launched.
