Manual vs Automatic Transmission : which is better.

Today I am gonna clear your confusion in choosing between automatic & manual while buying car. So, which is better manual or automatic transmission lets see!

Manual or Automatic transmission?

Which is better?

That's a pretty interesting question . This debate has been present for the last seven decades  in automotive circle and starts rising few years back in indian market.Manual and automatic transmissions are completely different technologies .Which use different configurations and principles one is based on a simple grear pair while the other is based on a planetary gear set one uses a torque converter while the other uses a clutch pack we will do a logical comparison of these technologies .we will score which is better manual or automatic transmisson lets get started.!

Without getting too technical, the main difference is that automatic cars don’t have a clutch pedal.

You also have a simplified gearbox. Manual transmission cars have five or six gears, plus reverse, giving you full control over how the car performs.

Automatic cars tend to have four modes:

  • Park - P
  • Reverse - R
  • Neutral - N
  • Drive - D

The car itself selects the right gear for the speed and road conditions. This means you only need to think about whether you’re going forwards, backwards, or stopping.

There are a number of alternative types of automatic transmission, including Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT) gearboxes, single automated clutches and twin clutches. For the purposes of this comparison, we’re looking at the traditional automatic gearbox.

 #1 Cost!

usually automatics costs more maintenance cost, acquisition cost everything costs more in automatics usually automatics are also in the higher end models or mid models manual transmission usually is in the lower end models lets include here the cost of repairs usually in manual transmission its just the release bearing  tensioner pressure plate sometimes the release fork usually those are what gets broken but in automatic, ... here we go, what kind of automatic is it? cvt? dct? or just ordinary automatic transmission ... This is where it gets tough, where to go for repair usually it costs more or, sometimes you have to replace the whole transmission it costs more so im giving 1 point to manual transmission.

 # 2 Ease of use.

Here the automatic is ahead in automatic just step on the accelarator or brakes you are done but in manual transmission.  It is different you have an additional clutch pedal and then when you are in traffic I was stuck in traffic for 3 hours at c5 road, my knees was aching my knees was shouting for help when I stood up I could not walk straight here, the point goes to automatic transmission .

#3 Control of vehicle

Here we can notice that in manual going uphill, you can stay in one gear if the revolution is dropping, just down shift it can go up already going downhill you also have engine brake the auto also has engine brake but there is more bite in the manual transmisiion and when driving a manual in a corner you can hold the gear where you want it yo want 3rd gear. it will stay there in automatic you cant really feel it even automatics have manual mode but even if you use up or down, the feeling in manual is very different there is more control in manual and when overtaking there is more control in MT while waiting to overtake, raise the rpm after the vehicle on the opposite lane you can overtake with immidiate power in automatic there is a lag after you depress the pedal, it will shift first then go in manual, you downshift earlier and overtake faster if it is clear so in the control of the vehicle i will give the point to MT

#4 Learning curve in automatic,

Jjust press accelerator and brakes, you are all good in manual, sometimes you stall the engine when going uphill from stop, sometimes you go a little backward if you dont know how to control the clutch the vehicle will lunge forward and backward you will feel all of this in MT in AT this is non existent . What you have to study is just the size of your vehicle when turning will you scratch your side braking distance and thats it . The learning curve is easier in automatic so i will give the score to AT and before we continue please like and subscribe to our channel if you like our content, it will help us a lot, thank you!

# 5 Fuel efficiency

In todays technology there are cars that use less fuel in automatic specially cvt there are cars like that but most manual cars still use less fuel than AT counterparts so in this category lets give it to MT. More control more efficiency if you know how to use a manual because if not, you will consume more fuel in manual sometimes in manual you press too much brake but you dont release the clutch so you are consuming more fuel than needed skill level also affects this category lets just give this to MT, usually it uses less fuel 1 point MT .

# 6 Flexibility

If you are using a manual car, you really have to shift 1st 2n 3rd 2nd 1st and neutral you will use it all but in todays technology even if you have an automatic tranny you can use +/- even if it is automatic you can use it as a manual there are paddle shifters or plus minus shifters so in flexibility, 1 point goes to AT .

#7 Ego

Even when I started driving why use automatic? we are men real men drive stick! that was my premise until today specially if you are driving a sports car or big bike MT is better men use MT so im giving the score to MT.

final words manual transmission is not dead you can still use this,  its not that behind than AT specially. If its a sports car or a big bike, motorcycle or for business, cheaper is always better for sports bikes of leisure bikes motorcycles for leisure, not for everyday use manual is still better or if you live in mountainous areas all uphill and downhill, use a manual but for everything else AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION is our winner easier . Review by J@ck : Renault Triber (Budget MPV)

“ Renault Triber …  !  So this is the car trying to be a lot of things,  it's trying to be SUV , and MPV and easy to drive hatch, and sort of luggage van. So has Renault pulled off an almost impossible task and that too at an affordable price . Triber’s design is quite well balanced upfront it does appear quite similar to the Kwid but with a hint of Capture in it.”

Renault  launched TRIBER in India on August 2019 and since it has created much curiosity among automobile circle, but economic slowdown and pandemic have work against its sales figure and popularity. The sleek projector headlamps with the LED DRLs gives it a modern appearance you've got four skid plates and cladding for that rugged look and vile 182 mm ground clearance . May not be setting benchmarks it's plenty for our roads the bump in the roofline and the extended rear section makes it look a bit like a MPV and that feeling lingers at the rear as well and you wish it had a bit more muscle the straightforward dashboard design is functional and quality levels are not about the quid on the features front it's got just about enough this includes four airbags a touchscreen infotainment system a start/stop button and dedicated AC vents for the second and a third row. There are misses too such as the steering mounted controls, passive keyless entry, driver seat height adjustment, fog lamps and automatic climate control. On the space front the front two rows are adequately spacious 4-6 footers but the USP is the third row and that we think is best left to kids because of the limited room. On offer if you intend on using the third row know that boot space is next to nothing but fold it away and you get a massive 625 litre boot at your disposal. Renault Triber gets a 1 liter engine that makes 72 PS of power and 96 Nmof torque. Unlike the kwid the Triber gets variable valve timing (VVT), that gives it some extra punch. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual as well as an EMT.

It’s a value for money deal, what you get is a car that is practical and has unique features like it offers a third row option. So you get a seven seater for this price and also equipment wise it's not too bad. Here are some factor’s should be considered before comparing it with the rivals. :

 ·         Renault has launched Triber at Rs 4.95-6.49 lakh Ex showroom. It cost just as much as a normal  Hatchback would cost.

 ·         The Triber is built on Renault’s modular CMF-A+ platform that also underpins the Kwid hatchback It measures 3,990mm in length, 1,739mm in width, 1,643mm in height and 2,636mm in wheelbase so it’s a fairly substantial car, even among sub-four-metre models.

 ·         The Triber is one of two compact (under 4m) seven-seater offerings in the Indian market; the other being the Datsun Go+  With all seats in place, the Triber's boot space is all of 84 litres. However, the rear-most seats can be removed altogether, increasing luggage room to an impressive 625 litres.

 ·         Besides the SUV-like styling, the Triber's 182mm of ground clearance also helps the model look more muscular, Rear LOOK of Renault Triber.

 ·         Top-spec Tribers feature an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality a digital instrument cluster AC vents in all three rows, a cooled centre box, keyless entry, push-button start/stop on outside power windows, projector headlamps with LED DRLs and a rear wash-wiper.

 ·         In terms of safety, all variants of Tribers come with three-point seat belts on all rows, ABS, reverse parking sensors and at least two airbags Additionally, top-spec variants get the added safety of front-side airbags and a rear parking camera.

"Decent ammount of Head-room & Leg-room in 2nd row as well as 3rd row."

The seven-seat model is available in four variants and comes with one engine and one gearbox. Powering the Renault Triber is an upgraded version of the Kwid’s 1.0-litre (BR10), three-cylinder petrol engine It makes 72 hp and 96 N-m of torque and comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard . The ARAI-rated mileage for this engine-gearbox combination is 20kpl. Renault is expected to introduce a turbocharged version of the 1.0-litre petrol engine at a later stage and an AMT gearbox option. The 1.0-litre petrol motor is BS4-compliant and will be upgraded to BS6-spec before the April 2020 deadline. The French brand hopes that the Triber's compact size, spacious interiors and flexible seating configurations, coupled with the price, will help draw buyers from similar-size B segment hatchbacks. The Triber will retail from Renault India's network that comprises of over 350 outlets. And surely grow its presence over indian roads.

BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe : On its way to indian market

There's occasional wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth over the question of whether a four-door car can be called a coupe, but BMW has pushed that controversy aside and applied that tag to its SUVs and more traditional cars the latest example being this one the BMW 2 Series Gran coupe.

2 Series Gran Coupe line up kicks off with terms of performance in fact BMW wants a piece of mini muscle car its natural habitat is the urban jungle appealing to those wanting a racy four-door with the lot without much room to spare but a car in this price bracket needs to be more than a one-trick pony when it's time to escape to the country. It should still have the ability to deliver a refined yet engaging drive so we headed for the hills and some twisting back roads in between them to see how this fashionable new comer measures up a big grill is a big focus for BMW in terms of design. The 2 series gran coupe obliges with this oversized version of its signature kidney grille and it works together with angry angular LED headlights and big grilles either side to give the car a confident assertive face. Just over 4.5 metres long the Gran Coupe is a fair bit longer than the 2 Series two-door it's also a little wider and fractionally taller but the big surprise is a shorter wheelbase and that's because this front and all-wheel drive model is based on the 1 Series platform the cars profile conforms to the BMW gran coupe template with this sloping roofline tapering towards the rear and a series of creases along the cars flanks emphasizing its lengthy look long slim distinctly horizontal LED tail lights define the rear with other lateral lines and trim elements enhancing the cars wide and planted stance the interior will be instantly familiar to any current model .

BMW owner with the neatly arranged dash- featuring the cockpit professional setup including a 10.5 inch configurable instrument display at another same size multimedia screen next to it. All instrumentation and key controls are angled towards the driver and the attention to detail in terms of quality is high lights and screens are the new Chrome for automotive designers and the 2 Series Gran Coupe a complements it's sleek screens with an interior ambient lighting package as well as brushed metal elements and BMWs usual array of logically arranged legible and user-friendly switch gear but no matter how hard you shut your eyes and spit out a Harry Potter style incantation you can't magic up a big interior in a small car. Front seating area and despite electric adjustment even for these side bolsters the front seats are snug storage is provided in all the right places but scaled down to suit the available space there's a lidded compartment here between the front seats a pair of cup holders and a wireless charging bay for devices just here there are decent door pockets in the doors with room for bottles and a glove-box capable of accommodating several pairs of gloves access to the rear requires mild gymnastic , because the door aperture is modest and once you're in there it's tight so sitting behind the driver's seat set for a normal guy makes firm contact with the headliner and my knees are starting to strike up a firm relationship with the front seat back forget three armreast in here.

I would describe the Gran Coupe a sitting position as a two plus two plus one back seaters had access to small door bins and a fold-down center armrest with two cup holders the Primo m235i X Drive features adjustable rear vents while the218i misses out the boot chips in with 430 liters of volume which is okay rather than cavernous and remember with a booted carlike this it's often this distance here which is your limitation but the 40/20/40 split folding rear seat liberates more space but this is the ultimate driving machine. Gran coupe is powered by a 1.5 liter 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing103 kilowatts and 220 Newton meters sending drive to the front wheels via a7-speed dual-clutch auto transmission the m235i is powered by a 2-literfour-cylinder turbo petrol engine like the 218i triple also used in various BMW and meeting models this time including the mini John Cooper Works GP it produces no less than 225 kilowatts and a whopping 450 Newton metres sending power to all four wheels .Through an 8-speed conventional torque converter automatic transmission and a dedicated transfer gearbox[Music] for most driving circumstances the 218i offers enough performance to get the job done with claimed zero to100 km/h acceleration in under nine seconds the three cylinder car is smooth surprisingly quiet and responsive.

The little turbo providing a satisfyingly linear response with maximum torque available from just fourteen hundred and eighty rpm all the way to 4200 rpm the 7-speed auto is most dual-clutch like in that it's unobtrusive but very dual clutch like in that it shifts rapidly and precisely step into the m235i. And you're entering a world of serious performance with more than twice the power and torque of the 218i it's able to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in less than five seconds which is properly fast the inline 4 is crisp and lights up with only a modest flexing of the right ankle and the engines raspy induction noise is mile inducing and the exhaust chimes in with blurts and bangs on maximum rev up changes and pops and crackles on the way back down through the ratios the 8-speedAuto doesn't give anything away to the 218i dual clutch in fact shift to manual mode and a flick of the pedal results in a pretty much instant gear change. The Drive all-wheel-drive system keeps the car planted additional gearbox on the back of the transmission seamlessly distributing drive to all four wheels pushing along some v road bends the m235i remains balanced and feels eager picking up the throttle quickly out of tight corners and the big brakes keep the car stable as weight transfers to the front axle but no matter which version of the two Series Gran Coupe you're in ride handling balance is impressive suspension is by struts at the front multi licks at the rear in both versions and this cars ability to blend precise cornering with a comfy ride really the mark of a company that knows it's way around suspension design steering is accurate fearsome and nicely weighted .

In both models although the m235i dials things up with some meatier variable rate settings the seats in both models are grippy although it must be said them235i runs the risk of compromising long distance comfort for short term location. These bolsters can be adjusted and even on their wider setting feels pretty snug the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe a hadn't been assessed but ,BMW is confident it will score a maximum 5 star rating you can go to the review on the cars guide site for all the details but it's worth noting full. Standard at urban speeds the city brake system will detect a potential forward collision and slow the car if necessary but not bring it to a complete stop for that you'll need to option in adaptive cruise control at six hundred and fifty four dollars for the 218i and eight hundred and fifty dollars for the m235i combined cycle fuel economy sits at a measly five point nine liters per hundred kilometers for the 218iand a slightly thirstier seven point six liters per hundred kilometers for them235i during a week of city suburban and freeway running in the latter we recorded a real-world number of 10.2 liters per hundred kilometres .Small four-door cars aren't exactly flavor of the month but this newcomer combines solid value with great dynamic balance in a premium compact package it's aimed at a niche within a niche for seekers of sleek in a city sized and by that I mean small four-door luxury .

D'ecore your car
